Kerala has got its own laptop named after one omnipresent crop in the state, coconut. Christened Coconics, it is India’s latest OEM/ODM Company with private-public technology partnership of four constituents (UST Global, KELTRON, KSIDC &Acceleron) with the guidance and support of Intel to manufacture IT products in India under the Make in India initiative.

Coconics has set up a modern manufacturing plant, which has a capacity to manufacture 2,50,000 laptops annually, on the outskirts of Trivandrum. With a plan to localise the components of the laptop that would be priced competitively, making it affordable for common people.

Coconics’ state of the art manufacturing plant at Monvila on the outskirts of Trivandrum has a capacity to manufacture 250,000 laptops in a year. With a phased localisation plan already in place, Coconics will focus on leveraging the Indian ESDM ecosystem to localise critical BOM, including the motherboard, battery, adaptors and packaging. This will be in addition to local assembly and testing for its product range. The initial range of products from Coconics is aimed at the government, enterprise and education markets with features customised to the Indian users.

The company recently bagged an order, through competitive bidding, to supply the mid-level laptops to the Kerala government for the next one year, says Manoj T, director Sales. This deal is expected to save the State exchequer up to Rs.16,000 on a single laptop and the total quantity expected is in the range of 18,500 laptops, he said.

“We would be launching three new models for the consumer markets by January 2020,” he said

As of now, Coconics has announced three products that will cater to the customer according to their specific needs.CC11B is a tab-cum notebook with touchscreen targeting the frequent travellers. It features a 11-inch full HD touchscreen display, Intel Celeron N3350 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB eMMC storage, USB Type-C connectivity and up to eight hours of battery backup.

CC11A is a lightweight and trendy laptop aimed at students and young generation. The notebook comes with an 11-inch HD display, Intel Celeron N4000 processor, 2GB RAM and 64GB eMMC storage.

C314A is a rugged high-end configuration laptop meant for the business community. It sports a 14-inch HD display and features an Intel i3 7100U processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD storage.

All the laptops have pre-installed Windows 10, along with one year warranty on the notebook and six months warranty for the battery and accessories.

The laptop comes in four signature colours, claims to be glare resistant and drop resistant, according to the company website.

The company has also tied up with various vendors to manage the e-waste in an effective and efficient manner, so as to reduce the hazards of electronic waste disposals.
